WHAT IS SQUAD?
WHO WE ARE
Squad Harmonix is the very first year-round a cappella training academy for dedicated young vocalists aged 8-17.
Think pro soccer, but for singers.
It's an education
WHAT WE DO
Students meet every week currently online via Zoom for class time to learn :
voice warm ups
audition for solos live online
Additionally, students will learn industry techniques to film and record their parts, using our recommended recording equipment resulting in professionally produced music videos and albums produced by our in-house production team.
equipment set- up
make up tutorials
Eventually we hope to return to training in person and perform weekly live shows. Fortunately, our online program has become so popular with our members that we will be continuing Saturday classes in 2021 with the option to train in-person (for those living in Los Angeles and who have reached Senior and Performance Level).
At Squad Harmonix, we pride ourselves on maintaining a respectful, engaging, healthy risk-taking environment that allows students to enjoy the collaborative aspects of making music while finding their own voices and opportunities to shine.
Students are held accountable for progress and expected to deliver to the best of their abilities. Our staff provide many resources to tailor education to each and every individual student to assist in achieving their goals.
First and foremost, we are a community, team, a family of like-minded individuals working towards the same goal. In a time when we are so disconnected, we find it so important to keep a close community where students are encouraged to be themselves and support each other.
There are four Training Squads that students can sign up for which will determine how many hours they will need to commit to training each week as well as how many shows they will perform each semester. Depending on the training level, students will have the opportunity to attend our Squad Recording Classes and feature on our official albums and music videos. Each Training Squad has requirements that students need to meet before being accepted. These are referred to as Squad Academy Levels: Beginner, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Advanced and Master. SQUAD ACADEMY LEVELS
Our Academy Levels measure musical ability that each student must pass in order to move up to the next Training Level. These include scales, pitch reading, rhythm, notation/music symbols, sight reading and overall vocal ability. This program has been designed specifically to develop vocal ability in the pop/contemporary style. Students are required to take Music Theory classes for 60 mins privately each week (or 2 x 30mins) until they have completed Intermediate 2. After that, Advanced and Master Levels are optional but highly encouraged.
Our Academy is very advanced and aimed for the dedicated singer in your family. Most of our students take private voce lessons alongside Squad and we highly recommended this in order to get the most out of your Squad experience and also in your development as a performer. Be it with us or with your own teacher. Our Parent company Laura Jean Music Academy offers private lessons with our teachers who are trained and specialize in teaching children (extremely important when finding a Private Voice Teacher for kids as their voices can be damaged with someone not training in teaching young voices.)
Supplemental classes are offered to help students accelerate their training including:
MEET THE SQUAD
JUNIOR / SENIOR / ONLINE SQUAD
Live performance is an essential element of the experience at Squad. A Cappella is extremely hard to sing live, especially when you are the only one holding down your harmony in the group.
The number of performances for members increases depending on which level they train at.
VARSITY SQUAD: 8-15 shows per semester.
JV SQUAD: 4-6 shows per semester
SENIOR/JUNIORS: 2-3 shows per semester
